Climate Controls: Turn Off Auto A/C

By default, when you select one of the windshield defrost options on the climate controls, the air conditioner will turn on to assist in removing moisture from the cabin air. This feature may not always be needed or wanted. In that case you can change control settings to allow you to turn off the air con after selecting a defrost mode. This works for the 8th gen 2006 to 2011 Honda Civic, and may work on other years or models.

1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position (you do NOT have to start the engine).

2. Turn the fan knob to the OFF position.

3. Switch to the FACE ONLY vent mode (use DEFFROST to revert to factory setting).

4. Turn the temperature control knob to the COLDEST setting.

5. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.

6. Hold down both RECIRCULATE and A/C buttons simultaneously.

7. While holding both RECIRCULATE and A/C buttons, turn the ignition switch to the ON position.

8. Continue holding the buttons down until the light goes from flashing to steady.
